Purpose
Sets the strategic direction, drives customer segmentation, provides direction for sales execution and ensures the execution and lifecycle management of brand plans. Responsible for driving the strategy within the department/across the business unit. Often is required to create/conceptualize new systems, programs, or products with significant business impact. Develops and implements effective marketing plans in order to maximize revenue, market share and profitability goals. Has major decision-making authority and direct impact on revenue, market share and profitability goals. Incumbent is accountable for the development of marketing activities and for managing the implementation of marketing activities through staff for assigned products both marketed and in development. Incumbent chairs cross-functional Extended Brand Teams (EBTs) to identify, develop and implement successful product promotion plans and practices. Participates as an active member on BioPharmaceuticals leadership team and helps to shape strategy and culture within the division.


Relationships
Reports to the Corporate Vice President, BioPharmaceuticals. Manages all levels of staff inclusive of Brand Managers and national Field Reimbursement team. Interacts extensively with counterparts within Diabetes and Obesity, as well as with other members of the department. Proactively ensures close collaboration with Sales, Medical, Regulatory, Trade and Legal functions as well as with International Marketing. External relationships include working with agencies, Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), etc. Present strategic business case scenarios to Executive Team (ET), in response to executive requests.


Essential Functions
Market Analyses: Develops and implements pre-marketing strategies, and develops marketing thought leader relationships and involvement. Oversees the management of qualitative and quantitative marketing research projects, associated budgets and relations with outside consultants. Ensures accurate sales projections/forecasting for existing products are provided.

Product Investment: Develops and oversees implementation of key metrics. Regularly reviews current program progress to ensure profitability goals are on track. Develops relationships with and receives commitment from relevant Novo Nordisk Inc (NNI) and Novo Nordisk A/S (NNAS) departments to ensure the successful execution of strategies. Maximizes revenue and profitability and understands return on investment (ROI) concepts to ensure program effectiveness. Ensures sales and market share objectives are met.

Promotions: Develops and oversees implementation of promotional and training programs, including coordination of involved external suppliers and agencies. Develops and oversees the implementation of marketing plans with promotional budget responsibility. Oversees the implementation of promotional tactics within budget parameters. Oversees the management of the advertising agency and promotional review system to implement overall campaign elements, educational, promotional and public relations programs.

Strategic Team Leadership: Acts as a key representative of Norditropin product line to outside organizations. Directly responsible for overseeing the national Field Reimbursement team. Develops and executes these plans by leading Extended Brand Teams. Develops and oversees implementation of pre and post launch business plans and launch strategies. Develops and presents compelling plans and strategies for management endorsement. Effectively manages budget. Leads and develops marketing strategies and works with the various marketing support units to maximize product profitability. Leads marketing strategies and works with the various marketing support units to maximize product profitability. Leads the effective integration of various marketing tactics – medical education, market research and forecasting, advertising, public relations, sales force, patient education, etc. Leads the effective planning, direction, implementation and quality of all designated marketing strategies and plans. Identifies and implements improvements for future launch, development and life- cycle activities. Oversees and sets the strategic direction and implementation for the brand. Oversees the effective planning, implementation and management of customer segment/portfolio/brand plans. Sets strategic direction to effectively maximize lifecycle activities and provides direction for sales execution. Responsible for business development related to all brands (e.g. strategy input, working with business development (BD) group and participating in BD meetings with potential partners and evaluate opportunities). Works closely with Vice President (VP), BioPharm Commercial Lead to ensure marketing programs are developed that strongly support their direct and indirect needs with customers. Works effectively with international colleagues for new product launches and to share best practices, etc.

Supervisory: Ensure that reporting personnel have 3P forms with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the Individual Development Plan (IDP) forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.


Qualifications

  • At least 12 years relevant marketing and product management experience, demonstrating a steady career progression with increasing roles of responsibility within the pharmaceutical industry
  • A Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience with international product launches and strategies preferred
  • Prior management/supervisory experience required
  • Prior sales/sales management experience also preferred
  • Proven track record of effective strategic planning, execution and follow up. Solid understanding of the marketplace
